Why Choose a Reputable Remodeling Company?

A reputable remodeling company protects your home, your money and your time. It holds a Virginia contractor license you can look up, carries insurance, pulls the building permits, puts the scope and price in writing, and stays accountable until the work is finished. Choosing on price alone can cost more later, when work has to be redone or a permit problem turns up.

What makes a remodeling company reputable?

  • A contractor license you can verify. In Virginia, contractors are licensed by the Board for Contractors, part of the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR). Ask for the license number and check it on the DPOR license lookup.
  • Insurance that is current. Ask for a certificate of insurance and check the dates.
  • Permits handled by the contractor. A reputable company prepares the plans and files for the building permit with your county instead of asking you to skip it.
  • Everything in writing. A written proposal that explains the work, the materials, the cost and the timeline, followed by a signed contract.
  • One person accountable. You know who leads your project and who to call with a question.
  • Real reviews and real photos. Reviews from past clients and photos of the company’s own finished work, not stock images.

Why does the license class matter in Virginia?

Virginia issues contractor licenses in three classes, A, B and C, based on the size of the jobs a company is allowed to take on. Class A is the highest. When you look a company up, check that its license is active, that the name matches the company you are hiring, and that the class covers a project the size of yours.

What can go wrong with an unlicensed or unpermitted job?

  • Work that was never inspected can hide problems inside walls, floors or deck framing.
  • Missing permits can come up when you sell the house, and you may have to open finished work for an inspection or pay to bring it up to code.
  • If the person who did the work cannot be reached, you have few ways to get mistakes fixed.

Warning signs to watch for

  • No license number, or a license under a different name.
  • An offer to skip the permit to save time or money.
  • A request for most of the money in cash before work starts.
  • A price with no written description of the work.
  • Pressure to sign the same day.
  • No business address, or a phone number that nobody answers.

Questions to ask before you hire

  1. What is your license number and class?
  2. Can you send a current certificate of insurance?
  3. Who prepares the plans and pulls the building permits?
  4. What will the written proposal include?
  5. Who will lead the work day to day, and who do I call with questions?
  6. Can I read reviews and see photos of projects like mine?
  7. What happens at the end of the job if something is not right?

How we work at Reyes Construction Group

We are a family-run residential contractor in Fairfax and have worked in residential construction since 1998. We hold a Class A contractor license from the Virginia Board for Contractors and carry up-to-date insurance. Our staff prepares the plans and files the building permits with your county.

Every estimate starts with a free in-home visit and ends with a written proposal that explains what will be done, which materials will be used, how much it will cost and how long it will take. There is no commitment until you sign. The same person you meet at the first appointment leads the construction and walks the finished project with you, and we correct anything that does not meet your expectations. You can see our process step by step, read what our clients say or learn more about our family.
